Police have ruled the "suspicious fire" which they though took the lives of two lesbians was actually a murder suicide. The two women, Naumbyia T. German, 26 (right), and Kiona Lively, 27, were married in a civil union in Toronto, Canada in March of 2007. Firefighters that arrived at the scene found the first body shortly after extinquishing the flames so they called in the police. Upon arrival the police department found the second body.
The bodies were sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime lab for testing. Neither the police department nor the fire department would initially comment on the cause of the fire. Police Capt. Scott Brunson stated he would not release additional details, including the cause of death, until crime lab reports were returned. Today the death was reported as a murder-suicide. Lively shot German several times before setting German's body and the house on fire, said Statesboro Police Chief Stan York.
