At least that's the conclusion developed by the University of Delaware (UD). The school has demanded all students living on the campus go through "treatment" for their incorrect attitudes and beliefs. That treatment includes mandatory training sessions for all resident hall students and one-on-one sessions with RAs.
The definition of racist according to the school is one who is both privileged and socialized on the basis of race by a white supremacist (racist) system. The term applies to all white people (i.e., people of European descent) living in the United States, regardless of class, gender, religion, culture or sexuality.”
Now the school has been accused of brainwashing and violating constitutional rights.
I'm not sure why the school decided to take up such an extreme stance. I'm sure they did this with the best of intentions. I do love having a dialogue about race and diversity, but not like this. Also, I'm a bit perplexed by this policy. Does this mean only white people can be racist? Is this a trait exclusive of African-Americans or Native-Americans? I'm not even going to share my opinion. I just want you to think about it.
