"Best Couple" in Bronx High School

Don't be fooled by the rocks that they got . . . these two girls who attend high school in a South Bronx high school were just voted "best couple" for their senior class. Victoria Cruz and Deoine Scott are making history and changing attitudes by living their lives as out lesbians. When the time came for the seniors of Mott Haven Village Preparatory High School to vote for their favorite couple they weren't hesitant about nominating these young ladies that have been together for two and a half years. And though these young ladies plan on going to different colleges after high schools they have already sealed their commitment by getting engaged.

They would like to get married in New York although that is currently not a legal option yet. Ironically these two ladies live in the district of State Sen. Ruben Diaz, Sr, the legislator and Pentacostal minister that is the primary reason same-sex marriage legislation has not been introduced in the New York Senate. Although there is obvious homophobic attitude in their Senator, the girls claim that the reception they gotten at the school has been wonderful. There has been no backlash or reason for concern.

I am thrilled when I learn about stories like this one. The girls are an inspiration to their school and to many in the LGBT community. Thanx to the Advocate for bringing this story to my attention.
