The Internation Gay and Lesbian Human Right's Commission will honor Archbishop Desmond Tutu in their annual "Celebration of Courage" ceremony. Tutu will receive the 2008 Outspoken Award. The Archbishop has for years been an advocate for LGBT rights and opposed discrimination of the community by the church. According to Tutu, "If God, as they say, is homophobic, I wouldn't worship that God."
Tutu is an advocate for human equality and rights for all. His willingness to stand up for what he believes though this goes against what many religious leaders preach makes him a hero to me. Thank you to the IGLHRC for recognizing him for contributions and leadership.
